Celebrating Suffrage Day: A Kiwi Milestone

September 19, 2024

Hey there!

Today, September 19th, marks a day of pride for New Zealand: Suffrage Day. This is the day in 1893 when Kiwi women got the right to vote. It's a pretty cool milestone, considering we were the first self-governing country in the world to do it.

What's the big deal about voting?

Well, it's about giving everyone a say in how their country is run. Back in the day, women weren't allowed to vote, which meant their voices weren't heard. It was an unfair and unequal system, but thankfully, things have changed.

How are we celebrating?

There are lots of events happening around the country to mark the occasion. From parades and speeches to historical reenactments, there's something for everyone.

So, let's take a moment to appreciate the progress we've made and celebrate the women who fought for our right to vote. Happy Suffrage Day, New Zealand!
